Website Browser Usage Notes
Technical information:
-
- HTML / CSS
- Written in standard HTML/CSS so that it renders properly in multiple browser types. It does not require nor will it
install any third party software package on the user's computer.
- Display resolution
- Although it will display in screens smaller than 1024 pixels across, the pages will render properly in screens that
are at least 1024x768 or wider. It has been decided that this will allow the font sizes to be adequate for displaying
the information, and yet the layout of the site will still be functional.
- Javascript / Active X
- This website does not use Active X. This website does use Javascript, but will function correctly without it.
The javascript will make some of your browsing experience more enjoyable.
- Cookies
- The website does not use cookies at this time.
- File Formats
- Many of the files linked to on this site may be large, and will require external software to be able to be viewed.
Currently the formats include Adobe Portable Document format (PDF), MS Word (DOC), MS PowerPoint (PPT), MS Excel (XLS) and HTML files. There are a number of the viewers available on our Tools / Utilities web page.
This website (including the online reservations page) has been tested under the following web browsers. Any issues or comments are specified below.
-
- MS Internet Explorer (v5.0 through 7.0)
- This seems to be the most common browser used at this website. The website looks slightly better in MS IE than Firefox,
although it loads slower in MS IE.
- Minor issues have occured using the Reservations page, but at this time, we have been unable to track it down.
This problem has occured in <1% of the users using the Online reservations systems (and those users have been able to use the email address to reserve).
- Another oddity that only seems to impact MS IE (although it may be a configuration issue), is that it caches the website so that sometimes when the website is opened, you see the version that was open last time, not necessarily the most recent one. Not everyone sees this, and refreshing the web page from the browser solves the problem.
- Mozilla Firefox (v0.9 through v2.0.2)
- This is the webmaster's preferred browser, although the page renders slightly better looking in MS IE and looks nicer in Safari.
This browser does render the website faster, and there have been no complaints lodged by users using the Firefox browser.
- Safari (v3.155)
- The website has been tested and works well under Safari. The only unusual renderings are the same ones that appear under Firefox, but do not detract from the browsing experience. Actually, of the three browsers that the website is tested under, the webmaster likes the look of the site best using Safari.
- Netscape (used, but not tested/confirmed)
-
- Opera (used, but not tested/confirmed)
-
The software / utilities that can be used for viewing the files on this website (or for other uses) may be found on the Software / utilities page.
