Next Dinner Meeting - Maryland Performance Excellence Awards Recipients

MPEA Award:

The Maryland Performance Excellence Award (MPEA) program was started in 1983 at the University of Maryland in conjunction with Maryland’s U. S. Senators. MPEA was formed to help Maryland organizations achieve excellence and world-class results using the awards process to inspire, coach and recognize role model organizations for their successful implementation of systematic processes and achievement of outstanding results. The foundation for the awards program is the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence (www.quality.nist.gov), an internationally recognized management framework. Participation in the MPEA program helps organizations improve performance, gain competitive advantage through visionary leadership, focus on their customers and employees, and become a high-performing organization.

The Baltimore Section of the American Society for Quality is a 2007 Gold Sponsor of the MPEA program along with Chimes and Custom Direct, Inc. Silver Sponsors in 2007 include AAI Corporation, Delmarva Foundation for Medical Care, Montgomery County Public Schools, Southern Management Corporation, and Upper Chesapeake Health, all prior award recipients in the MPEA program. Each year ASQ-Baltimore features two Award recipients from the MPEA program at our May dinner meeting. This provides these organizations the opportunity to share with our members where they are on their continual quality improvement journey so that we can encourage our member-organizations to join the quest for quality in business

About the MPEA Award recipients:

Asbury-Solomons, Inc. the MPEA Gold Award recipient (healthcare), is a not-for-profit 501©3 Continuing Care Retirement Community located on a 58-acre waterfront, resort-like setting on the Patuxent River in Calvert County. Its mission is “to provide continuing care and other services to the aging, in a dignified Christian environment in southern Maryland.” With 500 residents in Residential Living, Assisted Living, and a Skilled Nursing Facility, their vision is “to be the first choice in senior living services and the employer of choice.” Mr. Andrew Applegate will present their Baldrige journey story including their experiences and lessons learned along the way. They were an MPEA Bronze Award recipient in 2004 and are one of a growing list of Asbury Community organizations recognized through the MPEA program

Howard Community College, the U. S. Senate Productivity Award for Maryland recipient (education), is a publicly funded two-year community college serving the educational needs of the citizens and employers in Howard County since 1970. The college is located mid-way between the metropolitan areas of Baltimore and Washington with its main campus in Columbia, MD. With its slogan, “You Can Get There from Here”, the college has forged a variety of partnerships to offer career and transfer programs to 25,000 students annually through its main campus, the Ecker Business Training Center, Laurel College Center, and the historic Belmont Conference Center. The College was the MPEA Silver Award recipient in 2006 and presented that portion of their journey at our Section meeting in May 2007. Ms. Zoe Irvin will present their continuing Baldrige journey story including the experiences and lessons learned along the way.

Registrations are closesd. Thank you. If you wish to attend without a meal guaranteed, you are welcome to attend the tutorial/program.
