FAQ - Job Seekers

Jobseekers Frequently Asked Questions for Job seekers

The Jobseekers program is a service to help provide job-related information to Quality professionals in the Greater Baltimore/Maryland/DC Meteropolitan area. Please review the questions below to get you started.

The latest Jobseekers Information Packet in PDF form will always be available at http://www.asqbaltimore.org/jobseekers/Jobseekers.pdf.

All links and job postings are provided "for information only." No endorsement by ASQ or any ASQ section, or member is directed or implied. If you are interested in applying for a position, please contact the person or organization noted in the announcement.

How do I find out what jobs are in the area ?
The latest Jobseekers Information Packet, available at http://www.asqbaltimore.org/jobseekers/Jobseekers.pdf will contain an listing of the latest known jobs, although it is updated slightly later than receiving an email through the ASQBaltJobseekers Yahoo groups. Receiving ASQBaltJobseekers Yahoo group emails will give you immediate notice of any jobs received by the Jobseekers program.
Are these all of the jobs in the area ?
No, these are only the jobs sent to the Jobseekers program or found through referral or research. If you are seriously looking for a job, a wide variety of resources and advice are available in the Jobseekers Information Packet.
How do I receive regular job notifications ?
Signing up through Yahoo groups to either receive email notices or join the group itself is the method we use for email notification. Send an email to jobseeker [at] asqbaltimore.org to receive an invitation to join the ASQBaltJobseekers Yahoo group.
If you wish to receive notice that the Jobseekers package has been updated, then use the Jobseekers RSS feed http://www.asqbaltimore.org/jobseekers.rss to get notifications when the Job Packet changes.
Do I need to join Yahoo Groups to get job notifications ?
You will need to provide your email address if you want to receive emails, but not join the Yahoo Groups. Follow the directions when you receive your invitation. Alternatively, you can monitor this web page or use the Jobseekers RSS feed (above) to see when the Jobseekers Information Packet is updated.
Can I find the job listings in the Jobseekers Information Packet on the website ?
The job listings in the Jobseekers Information Packet are provided only in the packet PDF file available at http://www.asqbaltimore.org/jobseekers/Jobseekers.pdf, job listings are sent through the email notifications, and job listings are displayed at the monthly ASQ meetings. If you wish to see the job assistance information, see the Employment Resource page.
The Jobseekers Information Packet is large to download, can we see only the latest jobs posted ?
If you wish only to get the new jobs as they are received, then you must sign up for the email notifications.
Why should I use this service instead of ABC or XYZ ?
You shouldn't. This service should be one of the many tools a job seeker should use to look for a new job. This is a service that is available to our members of ASQ Baltimore.
Does ASQ Baltimore offer a Resume Bank ?
ASQ Baltimore does not offer a resume bank, although ASQ does at ASQ Resume Bank
Are there other ASQ Sections that offer similar services ?
See the Other Quality Links page to view the other, nearby ASQ Section websites.
I signed up, how do I unsubscribe ?
Every Jobseekers notification distributed through Yahoo Groups has a number of links at the bottom of the email that allows you to control your account settings. One of these is the "Unsubscribe" link. Click on this to un-subscribe through Yahoo Groups.
Can I help the Jobseekers program ?
Right now, passing on jobs to fill out the listings is the biggest help for the program today.

FAQ - Employers

Jobseekers Frequently Asked Questions for Employers

The Jobseekers program is open to any employers who have positions open in the Quality (or related) fields.

Why should I advertise my position on this site ?
Listings reach over 800 local Quality Professionals. The Baltimore Section ASQ lists job postings free of charge on our web page, and distributes printed listings at our monthly dinner meetings. You may advertise with or without firm identity, as you request and we will maintain complete confidentiality.
How do I get a job placed on the ASQ Baltimore website ?
Send the text of the job description, or a link to a webpage with the job description to jobseeker [at] asqbaltimore.org. Please provide a description of the position (maximum one-page), as well as contact information and web site (if available), and a one-sentence job description for the listing. Ad should make it clear if the submitter is a recruiter vs. the principal organization.
My company already uses a job board, or a recruiting company, why use Jobseekers ?
Jobseekers is specifically viewed at by Quality professionals looking for career and job opening information. You are more likely to attract the type of personnel you need, rather than people looking for a job that they might not be qualified for.

Being free and more focused, Jobseekers supplements your current recruitment program, increasing whatever exposure to the recruiting program that you already have.
Do I need to have a Quality-related position opening to advertise ?
Yes. The position should be a Quality position, or be in a Quality-related field (regulatory, reliability, software testing, etc.). If you are unsure of whether the position qualifies, ASQ has a great Quality Job Titles web page and glossary on Quality that can be reviewed, or send an email to Jobseekers and if eligible, it will be posted.
Do I need to be a Baltimore-based company to advertise ?
No, but note that if the position is not in the Greater Baltimore / Maryland / Washington area, then the audience is not likely the one you are pursuing. You are welcome to post a position, as long as it is quality industry related.
How much does it cost ?
The listing is free, and we generally keep it up for 60 days. If you wish it to be renewed, then let us know. If the position is filled, then please let us know.
Will ASQ Baltimore Jobseekers trade web links with my company ?
ASQ Baltimore will only add links to the Information Packet or the Employment Resource web page if the link is appropriate. If you do not have a webpage that is quality-career related, then we will not link to it. This also applies to job link websites that are not quality related. Note: Looking for "quality personnel" is not the same as offering a quality industry-related position.
What do I do if I have any other questions ?
Send an email to jobseeker [at] asqbaltimore.org.
What else can my company do to improve the number and quality of applicants for my positions ?
Besides taking advantage of the local and national professional organizations in the field of the position that you have open, one of the biggest suggestions I have is to make sure your company's website (if it has a Job Opening webpage) has all of the latest listings. Even if you use a service such as monster.com or careerbuilder.com, many jobseekers will look at your website to determine if there are any openings or for more details about the position. At this time, I estimate that for about 40-50% of all local quality-related jobs on Careerbuilder, there is no listing for the jobs on their website. And most often, the company's own website has outdated job listings.
