Site Development

Recent Updates (2009-November)

  • Updates to the reservations systems added. Workflow improved. Changed around the wording of some of the options to clarify them, and changed some of the checkboxes to drop-down menus.
  • New Lean Six Sigma page is implemented. Will be the template for all future SIG/UG web pages.
  • Created a contact form system that can be easily duplicated for multiple department/committees/etc. Implemented on the Proctor Page and on the LSS-SIG page. Can be easily duplicated for all contact needed on the website.

Recent Updates (2009-10-06)

  • Updates to the colors used for the Calendar of Events, to make them “web friendly” / “viewer friendly” and a little easier to distinguish events from one another. Also made minor formatting changes to the calendar to ease review of monthly view.

Recent Updates (2009-09-24)

  • After some significant testing, changed the workflow of the email system used by the Reservations system. Fixed it to adjust for SPAM catching at the receivers end, made the emails clearer as to who is sending them, set up a secondary email process to email reservations separately to the appropriate ASQ Board members (improve email and increase privacy).

Recent Updates (2009-09-23)

  • Minor formatting updates to the calendar / monthly view to improve visibility.

Recent Updates (2009-09-20)

  • New reservations system up and running, will be in place for the October 2009 Dinner Meeting.
  • A plugin is now being used to confirm that Broken Links are detected (and possibly fixed).
  • A new feature where the new web features will be rolled out over time has started (beginning with the Calendar of Events). Other features will be added regularly.

Recent Updates (2009-09-11)

  • The Where Quality Meets and Calendar of Events page have been “combined” — the Calendar plugin was updated to provide a list of the next 3 months of meetings automatically generated under the monthly view (that way, either view can be used).
  • Note that the problem with the site directories (I believe) have been solved. The plugins are now working and I should be able to set the site to be reviewed by Search Engines and not be penalized for duplicate content.
  • Archives of earlier postings has been extended back to July 2007. Once the archives are updated through September 2005, Eric F will archive the entire ASQbaltimore.org 3.0 website and will archive it under the Section Archives.

Recent Updates (2009-09-02)

  • Reservations through the email system are working, Eric F will wait to work on the reservations system until the Dinner Meeting is finished.
  • Feeds are now working, accidentally turned off a required configuration.

Recent Updates (2009-08-31)

  • Dinner Meeting pages and post updated.
  • Section Board page re-organized
  • Add statistics plugin to help track usage and product reports on the website usage (ABIP & JOBS)
  • Research into cache for speeding up the website (current testing is going on during the night, when usage is light, usage of the site during the day is much slower – currently about 6 times slower)
  • Feed not working – researching into it

Recent Updates (2009-08-30)

  • New site released to the public, 2009-08-30 2:00pm. Existing site technically exists, but will need to be purged out soon. Coincided with the release of the Jobseekers website.
  • Site navigation (html/web server access) not exactly as I had hoped–problems with some WP Plugins. But the webmaster decided not to be so picky and decided that the site is good as it is, since it is working.
  • Awards page: Updated.
  • Calendar page: Formatting improved for readability.

Recent Updates (2009-08-29)

  • I have made a number of code changes to speed up the Blog software by 100%. Base page retrieval improved from 3.342 seconds to 1.157 seconds. Future speed improvements upcoming.
  • Shut down the old website to a shell until the new site is ready.
  • Waiting for the September Dinner announcement to release the website formally.

Recent Updates (2009-08-26)

  • Added Section Awards page – to be populated.
  • Added Section Board Meeting page – to be populated
  • Added Where Quality Meets page
  • Website Privacy Policy: Updated.
  • Archives sidebar – changed to collapsible.
  • Sidebar – minor tweaking to balance the text / links shown on the screen.

Recent Updates (2009-08-25)

  • Certification Exam Page: Updated.
  • Calendar of Events: Updated. Minor formatting updates.
  • Board Roster Page: Updated.
  • Board Descriptions Page: Updated.
  • Reservation Web Page: Mock-up / Temporary page set up.
  • Note boxes float over the menus. This is a feature that I am not able to correct, but the use of the Notes/Tips will not be regularly at the top of the pages (which is the problem).

Recent Updates (2009-08-23)

  • Emails with the web structure, the individual pages and the plans for updating the web site have been sent out.
  • The new site should be released for review by the Section Board this week, and then ready for official release anytime after the major kinks are hammered out.
  • Format: Notes, tips are added to the system to allow a visual cue for important information.
  • Feature: Contact Us page now has a email-able form that users can fill out. Please test. Use the word “test” in the name or message if you do not want me to respond to you. This may be replaced by a different form with SPAM catching technology.
  • Added a “Site Development” page to the ASQ Baltimore site so that testers and interested parties can track the development of the site. Eventually, this will be removed and incorporated into a History page.
  • Upgraded the underlying system to Wordpress 2.8.4 – latest version, security updates.
  • Feature added: Displaying all email addresses and personally identifiable information as graphics. If you notice anywhere an email address is exposed or should be, then email < – - All emails should look like this now.
  • Security: Security features have been updated. One last feature has been addressed. Database security has been updated. The new ASQ Baltimore Information Portal will now be able to be adapted with the new security features.
  • Reservations Form: This will take me some time. When the Section Board wishes to set up the reservations, let ejf know. I will come up with something.
  • Calendar of Events. This page is now fully functional (as I have set it up). Please test this well. Hit the pages, click links, comment/critique. Unless issues are found, this is the way is will be set up. Calendar of Events are set up this way on the ASQ 0502 website for all WQM events, categories are used to differentiate the types of events.
  • Widgets – The sidebars on the right-hand side will need to be adjusted as more posts/pages are added to the site. As more items are items, these can be adjusted better. No point in spending a lot of time doing this until more posts/pages are added and more users are viewing the site.
  • Site Backups: Backups are now automatic and being sent to . Instructions for restoring the backups under Wordpress 2.8.4 will need to be written out – not done yet.
  • Subscriptions: The ability to manage subscriptions has been performed. Subscriptions can be added via the front page or by the Administrator of the web-site. This feature must be tested at least the workflow portion before rolled completely out.
  • FAQ page: The Section may wish to create an FAQ page to address the common questions that the members have to any of us.

Recent Updates (2009-08-16)

Feature: Contact Us page now has a email-able form that users can fill out. Please test. Use the word “test” in the name or message if you do not want me to respond to you. There is a simple math test to prevent computer-automated responses. This may be replaced by a different SPAM catching technology, but should cut down on the email I get as SPAM (approximately 30 SPAM mails for each real email).
