Judges needed to volunteer for the 55th Annual Baltimore Science Fair

The ASQ Baltimore Section has once again been invited to participate in the 55th Annual Baltimore Science Fair to be held at Towson University. As in past years, the Baltimore Section will provide volunteer judges and awards to students participating in the Baltimore Science Fair. The Section has been continuously supporting the Science Fair for about 20 years.

  1. Section members volunteer as independent judges for ASQ and earn Recertification Points.
  2. Judging takes place on Saturday, March 27th, at the Towson University Student Union. On Saturday the commitment is from 8:30 AM until about 2 PM.
  3. The Awards Ceremony takes place on Sunday, March 28th. If you can assist in presenting the awards, the commitment is from 3:30 PM until about 5 PM at the Towson University Student Union.
  4. Judges from our ASQ Section will adjudicate the student exhibits for their use and understanding of statistical principles and statistical thinking and provide recognition awards.
  5. The Section will also recognizes teams of students for effectively working together to solve their chosen problem.
  6. Members interested in volunteering to be a Judge may contact the Science Fair Committee Chair, Kevin Gilson, at 410-884-9165 or .

The Fair attracts winners of school and county-based science fairs from Maryland’s Baltimore Region. Students represent public and private schools and home schools. Students come from middle (Division 1) and high (Division 2) schools within Baltimore, Carroll, Harford, and Howard Counties and Baltimore City. The Fair is now operated by the non-profit Baltimore Science Fair Foundation and is additionally sponsored by the following organizations: Towson University, Lockheed Martin Corp., Baltimore County Public Schools, Constellation Energy Group, and Howard Co Public Schools. The Baltimore Section of ASQ is a contributing supporter.

Congratulations: PHH Arval wins Lean Award

Congratulations to PHH Arval for winning the Global Six Sigma & Business Improvement Award: “Best Application of Lean Tools within a Business Excellence Project” along with Miami Children’s Hospital.

PHH Arval, a subsidiary of PHH Corporation, has won a 2009 Global Six Sigma & Business Improvement Award for improvements made to the vehicle ordering process through Rally to Results, PHH’s process improvement program. The focus of this elite awards program is to demonstrate to the global business community the real results and excellence which organizations achieve through the successful deployment of Six Sigma programs.

PHH’s nomination was selected by the judges from among all the entries for one of the top awards in the program, “Best Application of Lean Tools within a Business Excellence Project.” PHH Rally to Results combines Six-Sigma methodology, service-oriented process improvement techniques, and advanced technology to deliver measurable results to PHH’s fleet clients. The award recognized PHH’s ability to apply its techniques and methodology to transform processes that matter to its clients. In addition to receiving this judge’s choice award, PHH was also named a Finalist in the “Best Project Achievement in Sales, Marketing or Customer Experience” category.

  3. It will take place at the Towson University Student Union.

  5. The Section will also recognize teams of students for effectively working together to solve their chosen problem.
